We are hiring for a business/field technician, with solid desktop support skills. We run a Linux (primarily Ubuntu) shop, but repair and administer Windows, Linux, and Mac servers and workstations.

Applicants for the job must live in the New Orleans area, must have a laptop, must have a smartphone, must have reliable internet service at home, and must have a vehicle available full time (vehicle needs to be capable of carrying reasonably-sized equipment such as computers, servers, and printers). Additional requirements are below:

Field Technician skill set – Differentiate between hardware and software issues for Apple and PC systems – Familiarity with common smartphone feature setup, primarily email synchronization – Replace faulty computer or networking hardware – Interpret technical jargon fluently and document technical tasks accurately – Explain technical matters accurately to both technicians and non-technicians – Ability to offer phone-based support to clients, such as walking through troubleshooting and common repair steps – Be familiar with DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP and other networking standards – Work effectively in groups and independently, and maintain documentation for the group – Familiarity with Linux is a plus – Scripting skills are a major plus
