New Orleans

Kickboard is changing the way teachers measure their impact in the classroom. We build web-based tools for teachers to track traditional grades as well as daily "micro data points" to highlight anecdotal evidence of student progress.

We've been recognized numerous times as leading innovators in education reform…

… but in our opinion, we've only scratched the surface. We're building a compelling user experience to equip teachers with action-oriented charts, graphs and dashboards, enabling them to make smarter, real-time decisions about what to reteach, who to reteach, and how student behavior affects academic achievement.

And that's where you come in.

We're looking for a talented developer with a strong desire to build a game-changing product and to constantly expand his or her technical skills. Ideally, you'll start immediately in a part-time capacity, with the opportunity to transition to full-time after successful completion of initial projects.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise (3+ yrs) building elegant web applications with highly interactive UI
  • A passion for web standards and usability
  • Expert knowledge in HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery/AJAX
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Balsamiq or equivalent tools
  • Exposure to Agile development processes
  • Team player and solid communicator

Extras that will make you stand out:

  • Experience using version control systems such as Subversion, Git.
  • Experience with PHP and JSON
  • Strong debugging skills
  • Experience designing for cross browser compatibility
  • Interested in educational equity and social entrepreneurship
  • Experience working with large data sets and knowledgable about data visualization best practices
  • Experience working with remote teams (if not based in NOLA)

What we offer:

  • Part-time position with steady work flow (15-20 hrs/week) with opportunity to increase hours and/or transition to full-time role down the line
  • Equally passionate, knowledgeable, and supportive peers
  • A product that is changing lives and you'll be proud of showing off (your teacher friends will love you!)

Kickboard is based in New Orleans (epicenter of education reform) but you can be based anywhere for this role. Part-time position available immediately.

Qualified developers should e-mail jobs@kickboardforteachers.com with the following:

  • Resume
  • Portfolio site or URL list (with clear descriptions of your project roles)
  • Rates and availability
  • Why you're excited about Kickboard in two sentences or less
