Description: Seeking Communication or Business student eager to gain a better understanding of the not-for-profit sector and event planning experience. Internship will provide a larger understanding of how a Development department functions on a daily basis as well as the process of raising money and strengthening relationships between Audubon and our donors. Interns must be self-motivated and eager to learn. The program is an unpaid, 20-hour a week internship for the 2011 summer semester. Interns will learn a wide range of event planning and behind-the-scenes fundraising operations, working on both deadlines and long-term projects.
Summary: Reporting to the Development Operations Manager, the Development Intern is responsible for assisting staff with event related duties and office operations.
Anticipated Projects:
Event Planning
• Assist Development staff in planning, preparing and producing the Aquarium’s Scales & Ales event including tracking vendors and their contributions, working with volunteer committees, handling production needs, and following-up with staff committee
• Various tasks include preparing mailings, vendor follow-up phone calls, organizing event materials and production assistance.
Donor Relations
• Assist Development staff with donor relations program including processing acknowledgement letters and receipts for mailing, preparing materials for donor meetings, preparing follow-up materials for donor tours, and other donor relations projects as needed.
• Assist Development with donor recognition inventory at Audubon Zoo, Park and Aquarium and develop a more efficient way of monitoring plaques.
Adopt An Animal
• Assemble and mail adoption packages.
• Assist Development staff with Adopt An Animal monthly communications including drafting 2 communications per month
Office Operations
• Maintain department’s hard files on donors and on general Audubon Institute information.
• Prepare files for off-site storage based on current IRS regulations.
• Fax, copy, mail and file information as requested by development and member services staff members.
• Process check requests and purchase orders as needed for the Development Department.
• Assist with purchasing and packaging donor giveaways.
Interactive
• Assist Web Designer with building video database for promotions and youtube
• Assist with various online projects including reviewing copy and integrating keywords into existing copy
