We are having an issue with a web site that streams multiple videos (2,500+) at once. Our problem is that our streams seem to be very sensitive to changes in bandwidth.
We may attempt to solve this by using a server-side streaming service that will manage the bandwidth via more robust protocols than HTTP. We are considering moving our server to a platform that supports Microsoft's Smooth Streaming application, in an attempt to help mitigate this problem.
We have other solutions in mind, such as reconfiguring Apache to use a bandwidth management module (such as mod_bw, or mod_bandwidth, or mod_bwshare), or to install a secondary httpd service with less overhead, such as nginx or lighttpd, to handle only streaming video requests while Apache continues to handle our normal web site visitors.
If you can solve this for us, using either of the above methods or your own, and help us understand your process along the way, we would be willing to hire you for this project.
Please send a quick e-mail, or respond to this posting, and help us to understand that you are the right person.
