St. Bernard Project will be looking to fill the following positions with Summer Interns.

Dates
In order to meet our yearly goals and keep running at our current capacity we will be needing individuals from May 2 through August 31. In order to accommodate students’ schedules we are going have 3 different shifts.
Compensation
Although our summer intern program is unpaid, St. Bernard Project offers free housing.
Positions
SITE SUPERVISOR (23 positions)
Site Supervisors work in the field leading groups of 10 – 15 volunteers in completing the construction tasks needed to rebuild a clients’ home. In addition to having to having a clear understanding of construction skills, a Site Supervisor is responsible for serving as an effective instructor, morale booster, and monitor of safety and quality work while on site. Site Supervisors typically work independently on site leading volunteers. Each Site Supervisor reports to a Project Manager within the Construction Department.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organized work site
• Ensuring that work is being completed at the proper pace and schedule.
• Ensuring that work on a home is of the highest quality.
• Serving as a liaison between the homeowner and volunteers when on site.
• Clearly communicating a homeowner’s story to volunteers.
• Maintaining a professional and positive attitude when working with volunteers.
• Conducting on site orientations for volunteer groups.
• Communicating the building process in a comprehendible way for volunteers to easily understand their tasks for the day and the week.
• Providing effective instructions and constructive feedback to volunteers to develop their construction skills.
• Educating volunteers on the area, the effects of the storm, and the history and work of the St Bernard Project.
• Creating a fun and engaging environment that gets volunteers excited about the work that they are completing to bring our clients home
WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT (3 positions)
You will be in charge of maintaining the warehouse, occasionally on your own.
Your Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Daily – assistance to runners, assembling of construction kits, upkeep of warehouse
• Weekly – assistance with vehicle checklists, supply pick-ups, upkeep of construction building
• Help others find what they need and use sign out system
• Help establish and use a tool and supply tracking program
• Clean incoming tools and check for wear and tear
• Checking inventory for supply orders
• Assisting in repair
SUPPLY RUNNER (4 positions)
Responsibilities may include:
• Work with the warehouse manager and assistant to gather appropriate materials into your truck
• Deliver materials to given sites
• Buy new tools and materials at Home Depot
• Pick up tools no longer needed at sites
• Learning the uses and needs of different tools in various stages of construction
• Becoming familiar with SBP warehouse as well as Home Depot store layout
ASSISTANT PLUMBER (6 positions)
Responsibilities Include Assisting the Plumber to:
• Install new plumbing fixtures, including new lines, traps, and drains.
• Install water heaters, drains, tubs, faucets, valves, pumps, and commodes.
• Assembles pipes to repair/extend old plumbing lines or add new lines, including cutting and fabricating materials.
• Review work orders and prepare material list for completion of jobs.
• Perform tracing for leaks in pipes, lines and fixtures.
• Lay out/install water/drain lines to meet parish code.
ASSISTANT ELECTRICIAN (6 positions)
Responsibilities Include assisting the lead electrician in:
• Assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
• Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
• Supporting Construction Managers and Site Supervisors to ensure jobsite safety and security
