Laitram LLC, has an entry level opening for a part-time Patent Specialist. Specialist will learn and assist with the Company’s patent function by working at the direction and under the supervision of Patent Counsel on various aspects of preparing patent applications and responses to Patent Office actions. Specialist will be responsible for completing patent-related work as assigned by Patent Counsel, including coordinating and completing disclosures needed from engineers/inventors for patent applications.

Responsibilities:
· Support Patent Counsel by searching the prior art, drafting applications, coordinating with Engineers, and completing disclosures and drawings when needed.
· Build back-up for Patent Counsel’s institutional and industry knowledge regarding prior inventions and for knowledge of the patent system and patent administration.
· Following a period to assess and confirm competence and desire, develop into a potential successor to the in-house patent function, with the prospect of becoming a patent agent after a couple of years and eventually transitioning to full-time status.

Requirements:
· College degree,in engineering or another technical or scientific field.
· Desire and aptitude for writing and logical reasoning.
· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point)
· Excellent written and communication skills.
· Positive attitude, with attention to detail in work.
· Self-managed and proactive
· Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Desired Qualifications:
· Experience using computer-aided design or drafting software (CAD, Solidworks, ProE)
. Education or experience in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
