The St. Bernard Project is an independent, not-for-profit organization that was founded to help families who lost their homes due to Hurricane Katrina attain humane, affordable and sustainable housing. The St. Bernard Project believes that housing is a human right. The St. Bernard Project is a direct service organization that works in both St. Bernard Parish and Orleans Parish. The St. Bernard Project, with support from over 60,000 volunteers and 10,000 donors, rebuilds and builds homes so that citizens have good, safe places to live.

The St Bernard Project is currently recruiting for the following positions. Prior construction experience is a plus, but more importantly, we are willing to train the right candidate with a positive attitude and desire to learn.
Site Supervisor
Site Supervisors are at the heart of St Bernard Project’s Rebuilding Program. Site Supervisors work in the field leading groups of 10 – 15 volunteers in completing the construction tasks needed to rebuild a clients’ home. In addition to having to having a clear understanding of construction skills, a Site Supervisor is responsible for serving as an effective instructor, morale booster, and monitor of safety and quality work while on site. Through the quality of their work and their interaction with volunteers, Site Supervisors should ensure that St Bernard Project is represented in a professional and positive light.
Assistant Electrician
Assistant Electricians respond to the Head Electrician and perform work on St. Bernard Project’s clients’ homes, or jobsites, as assigned including but not limited to the following: Assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Assistant Plumber
Assistant Plumber responds to the Master Plumber and performs work on St. Bernard Project’s clients’ homes, or jobsites as assigned including but not limited to the following: Review work orders and prepare material list for completion of jobs, install new plumbing fixtures, assembling pipes to repair/extend old plumbing lines or add new lines, tracing for leaks, and laying out/install water/drain lines to meet parish code.
Purchaser
The Purchaser makes daily purchases and negotiates pricing from our primary supplier and other vendors, and requests and organizes bids from sub contractors. They are also responsible for researching pricing online for building materials and other equipment, which involves screening new vendors and reviewing existing vendors. The purchaser works directly with our Project Managers and Director of Construction to procure materials and bids. All of this will be done while organizing and maintaining standard lists of materials and vendors and continuing to refine procurement processes and manage flow of supplies.
Construction Office Coordinator
The Construction Office Coordinator will work with the Director of Construction, Scheduler, Project Managers, and other construction staff to deliver completed and successful construction projects. Construction Office Coordinator will be involved throughout construction, but will be most active on projects during Pre-Construction and at the end of construction phases. In addition to construction administration responsibilities of obtaining permits and coordinating inspections, Coordinator will be responsible for front office operations and maintaining data and records. Construction Office Coordinator must be willing to work in a team and must be flexible in the assignment of tasks. All efforts are made to achieve successful completion of construction projects. The tasks related to this position are vital to ensuring successful and legal completed of houses.
Special Building Programs Coordinator
The Special Building Programs Coordinator will interpret grant requirements into appropriate methods that work with SBP’s processes to successfully complete projects. Special Building Programs Coordinator is informed through all phases of projects, but is most involved in pre-construction planning. Coordinator communicates with all involved parties to determine best approaches to completing special projects and to develop a plan and schedule. Special Buildings Programs Coordinator focuses on factors involving land use planning and construction.
About AmeriCorps
All positions are 5 month AmeriCorps State terms of service. AmeriCorps members receive a living stipend of $1,180 per month, as well as an education award of $2,650 upon successful completion of the term.
